LCIA, ICC, DIS: Which of these Arbitration Rules are best for International Transactions?

Dr. Rolf M. Winkler, LL.M., Board Member of the Deutsch-Amerikanische Juristen-Vereinigung e.V. (DAJV), the German American Lawyers Association and Chair of its Committee on Arbitration Litigation Mediation, moderates at the 11th Conference of its specialized committees at the Institute for Law and Finance of the Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main, Grüneburgplatz 1, a symposium with the topic: „The new LCIA-Arbitration Rules: More efficient, faster and fairer?“. Subject of this symposium is a comparison between the new Arbitration Rules of the London Court of International Arbitration which came into effect on October 1st, 2014 with the Arbitration Rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Paris, in effect since January 1st, 2012 and with the Arbitration Rules of the Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit (DIS), the German Institution for Arbitration, Berlin/Cologne.


Speakers: Dr. Francesca Mazza, General Secretary of the DIS, and Dr. Maxi Scherer, LL.M, Special Counsel, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, London.

The lectures will be in English, the questions and answers session will be in German and English.



“The impact of state and EU subsidies and other recent developments in public procurement”

EU Commission - In-Depth Session on Services in Germany

According to Regulation (EU) No 1176/2011 the Commission prepares annual reports containing a qualitative economic and financial assessment in order to detect macroeconomic imbalances within the Union. The annual reports identify Member States that the Commission considers may be affected by imbalances. In case, the Commission undertakes an in-depth review (IDR) for each affected Member State. The IDR findings on Germany dated March 5, 2014 identify higher investment in human capital by unleashing the growth potential of the services sector as central policy challenges. The Commission may address the relevant recommendations to the Council. In this context, the Commission has initiated a round-table discussion with experts on services in Germany.

Dr. Alexander Hübner will present key aspects of the publication of tenders, participation of SMEs and e-procurement under EU procurement rules and the impact on growth of services in Germany.

Inhouse conference of the Bündnis für Gemeinnützigkeit

Bündnis für Gemeinnützigkeit is „the“ German association of Germany’s umbrella associations of the Third Sector (not for profit organizations), including experts and academics in this field. Bündnis für Gemeinnützigkeit aims at strengthening the identity, relevance, visibility and concerted action of Third Sector organizations vis-a-vis political powers and the administration.

Dr. Alexander Hübner will present key aspects of the EU General Block Exemption Regulation regarding certain categories of state aid compatible with the Internal Market (Regulation EU 651/2014 – GBER).

13th Stuttgart Symposium on Public Procurement

Amounting to 17% of the GDP in the EU, public procurement is a key factor for Union and German markets. Economic operators are therefore dependent on a fair and transparent procurement framework that enables access opportunities of SMEs throughout the Union concession, works, supplies and services markets. The 2014 EU Directives entail a strong reform momentum and will lead to an exceptional number of changes in German public procurement law, too. The 2014 Stuttgart Symposium on Public Procurement aims at a better understanding of the New Rules and contributes to an effective implementation of the opportunities they offer to both contracting authorities and economic operators.

Dr. Alexander Hübner will speak about the 2014 EU Directives.
